Who Am I
My name is Layton Harman. I was born and raised in Williamsport, Pennsylvania and graduated from Hughesville High School in 2007. Since the 8th grade I found an interest and love for powerlifting and staying in shape. By 11th grade I started lifting in competitions and posted a three lift total of 1460 (squat /bench/deadlift) which I did 505, 355, and 600 respectively in the 242lb. weight class for 16-17 year olds. Throughout the years I still lived the lifestyle of eating right and lifting to get bigger and stronger until I was about 24 my injuries started piling up and I went a different route and started to incorporate more cardio by boxing and using lighter weights. After a while I stopped exercising completely and fell into a depression for the longest time. One of the big reasons was because my mother was sick with cancer and I think looking back that it just took a lot out of me mentally. Finally my dad called me and told me she took a turn for the worse right after Thanksgiving in 2016 and said she had about a month to live. My mother died on January 2, 2017. I was numb and completely detached from reality. After about a few months I thought it would be great to get back into lifting again like I once had been. But I slowly did it with baby steps by working out with bands and lighter weight. Suddenly I was able to see and understand my mom would not want me to waste my life being upset and not living for myself. I figured the best way to live for her was to get back to my roots and continue to move forward and keep her memory alive that way. By the end of 2017 I started lifting regularly, mainly upper body working on my bench press. A few months later I maxed out at 380lbs. at a bodyweight of 220lbs. Currently I am in the middle of a bench press program that will put my bench press back over 400lbs and I am already seeing results and I only weigh 225lbs. Also, my squat and deadlift are slowly but surely going back up as I have incorporated them back into my routine as well. My next challenge is to do a lifting tournament this December, and depending how things go, I would love to be able to bench press 400lbs once again officially in a tournament! I will continue to update in this incredible journey of life on here to let everyone know where I am at physically and mentally so you can join me and motivate yourselves as well to be the best you, you can possibly be!
